TWPDC Partner Success Story: Academy of Hope

Working Together to Make DC Work

Debbie Rhinehardt—wife, mother of two boys, Academy of Hope graduate and Trinity University graduate,  recognized the important role family plays in education when her sons became wary of finishing high school. Debbie asked her sons to “graduate for mommy” and they replied, “if you graduate then we will too.”  These words led Debbie to take her education into her own hands and search for an adult education program that met her needs. After calling around, Debbie found Academy of Hope in 2001 and immediately felt like family, “I enjoyed their loving attitude” she recalls. While a student at Academy of Hope, Debbie was very involved with the community and even served on Academy of Hope’s board of directors as a student representative. With the support of Academy of Hope and her family, Debbie completed her high school education in 2003.

Deb and her husband Wendell who encouraged and tutored her through her academic journey.

After graduating from Academy of Hope, Debbie continued her studies at Trinity University in 2004. Debbie has always wanted to give back, which is why she wants to work in the counseling profession so she can help others in need. Throughout her academic journey her husband, Wendell, stood by her side and even tutored her along the way. In 2011 Debbie made the Dean’s list at Trinity University two semesters in a row, and in May of 2012, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Human Relations. Today, Debbie continues advancing her education and pursuing her goals. Her next step is to enroll in graduate studies at Grand Canyon University in counseling.
