Working Together to Make DC Work!
The unemployment rate in the District of Columbia has exceeded 10 percent since 2009. In some areas, especially those east of Anacostia River where poverty has been firmly entrenched for decades, the official unemployment exceeds 25 percent; the true rate, which includes those who have given up in discouragement, may be significantly higher.
Even more disturbing is the large and growing gap between the poorest and the richest District residents. The income gap is larger in Washington DC than in any other city in the nation. In a recent report, the Brookings Institution estimated that approximately 60,000 DC residents need workforce skills enhancement.
The Work Place DC (TWPDC) will help put DC residents, many of whom have multiple barriers to employment, back to work.
By combining the expertise of several organizations, Work Place DC partners will offer DC residents who have multiple employment barriers, coordinated and holistic services. Our ultimate goal is to co-locate, so we can offer a variety of services under one roof so we can help put DC back to work!
Until we reach our goal of co-location, TWPDC partners are working together in a virtual way coordinating programs and services between partners. Your tax-deductible support will help make The Work Place DC a reality. We need a committed group of financial supporters to help us secure space and co-locate.
The Work Place DC is fiscally sponsored by the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region (Tax ID# 23-7343119).
